Optional Group Dinners

Tuesday and Wednesday Evening
June 14 and 15, 2005

We have special dining adventures planned for Tuesday and Wednesday nights: progressive dinners in Boston’s unique neighborhoods! We want to introduce you to Boston, as well as to each other, so we are going to break into small groups and then explore different neighborhoods by dining in at least two restaurants. We’ll have appetizers in one restaurant then walk to another for our main course and dessert. You’ll have a chance to get to know everyone during dinner because there won’t be more than 20 people in any group.

Don’t worry about finding your way around the city. You’ll be escorted from the conference to each restaurant, so you can’t get lost. All you have to do is make new friends, and enjoy the adventure!

After dinner, you may return to your hotel, or continue the festivities at a third restaurant for coffee and drinks. You are guaranteed an enjoyable evening --- good food, good friends, and good conversations --- as well as an introduction to a special corner of a fabulous city!

Each group will be limited to just 20 people. Check out the delicious descriptions below, and then register for one of these unique dining experiences in your conference registration forms. Don’t delay, because these are guaranteed to sell out quickly!

“A Night in Italy” The North End is one of Boston’s liveliest ethnic neighborhoods. Throughout history, it is the first place many immigrants called “home” in the United States. Today, the sweet scent of garlic wafts through the air signaling an Italian community, rich in culture and extraordinary restaurants! Our first course will be served at one of Boston’s famous North End restaurants, Ristorante Fiore. Then it’s on to Bricco, featuring delicious cuisine from Abruzzi region of Italy. Optional: After a stroll through the narrow streets that many people say reminds them of Europe, past the church where Paul Revere warned colonists the British were coming, we’ll finish the evening over coffee and pastries at the famous Cafe Vittoria.

“Dine like a Boston Brahmin” Spend the evening on Beacon Hill, one of Boston’s oldest and most elegant, neighborhoods. We’ll get an idea of what life was like in Colonial days by dining in restaurants that were once private homes. We’ll begin with a first course at 75 Chestnut, on the “Flat of the Hill.” Then we’ll move on to the Hungry i, often called Boston’s most romantic restaurant, for dinner. If the weather is warm we can opt to dine on the gorgeous garden patio. Optional: A short stroll will bring us to the Hampshire House, whose bar served as the inspiration for the hit TV show “Cheers.” We’ll enjoy dessert and coffee in the second floor library, overlooking Boston’s lush Public Garden.

“Historic Cruise and Seaside Dinner” The adventure begins as we board the Tall Ship Liberty for a two hour cocktail cruise! As the sun sets, we’ll dock at Long Wharf for dinner at the Chart House Restaurant, in a building that was once John Hancock’s office! Optional: After dinner we can stroll along the waterfront to a nearby wharf to enjoy coffee and cognac on the terrace of the Marriott Long Wharf, overlooking Boston Harbor.

“Asian Feast” This evening promises to be a truly different, and delicious, cultural experience! We’ll dine in Chinatown, a lively neighborhood that it is home to many Asian immigrants. We’ll start our culinary journey at Penang, a Malaysian restaurant. Then it is on to Shabu-Zen for a special Japanese beef dinner which you will cook yourself! Optional: Finish the night with Chinese pastries and tea at the Mix Cake Shop.

“18th Century Boston” History will come alive as you spend an evening in the “original” Boston. Our first course will be served at the Bell-in-Hand Tavern, where many of the Revolutionaries gathered to plan their liberation from England. Then we’ll move on to The Union Oyster House, the oldest continually operating restaurant in the country. Optional: We’ll stroll across the cobble stones to Quincy Market, where restaurants and food vending carts will tempt us with dozens of decadent desserts.

“Dine in the Countryside of Colonial America” We’ll travel to Sudbury, Massachusetts by mini-coach to enjoy dinner at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn, an authentic Colonial Inn that has been welcoming visitors since 1716. We’ll have time to stroll the lovely grounds and step inside the historic buildings that inspired Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s book of poems, “Tales of a Wayside Inn.” NOTE: This restaurant is 30 minutes outside of Boston, so it is the only one we will visit. The cost of transportation is included.

“Experience Harvard Square” The excitement and eclectic atmosphere of Harvard Square is one experience you’ll talk about for years to come! Our evening begins at Henrietta’s Table, an award-winning restaurant that specializes in serving local, organic food. Then we’ll head to Upstairs at the Square, a restaurant the Frommer’s guide says “…puts the “special” in “special occasion.” Optional: After dinner we can stroll around the Square enjoying the sidewalk musicians and artists, before retiring to one of the Square’s wonderful coffee houses.

“A Bird’s-Eye View of Boston” Birds see all the action of this exciting city as they soar through the skies… and you will, too! We’ll begin with a first course high above the Prudential Center at the Top of the Hub. Then we’ll overlook Boston’s historic South End as we enjoy some of the world’s best seafood at Legal Seafood. Optional: After dinner, join your new friends for coffee, dessert, and people-watching at Brasserie Jo, a French café. AVAILABLE JUNE 15 ONLY

“Newbury Street Stroll” Newbury Street is lined with fashionable boutiques, trendy art galleries… and fabulous restaurants! We’ll begin our stroll at 29 Newbury for New American cuisine. Then we’ll window shop as we make our way to Ciao Bella, one of the best places in the city to enjoy Northern Italian cuisine. Optional: If you care to linger longer, we’ll have coffee and dessert at Sonsie, where chic Bostonians go to see and be seen!

“Around-the-World in One Block” Brookline, Boston’s next-door neighbor, is home to many tantalizing ethnic restaurants. We’ll take our taste buds on an around-the-world adventure by starting with Spanish tapas at Taberna de Haro. Then we’ll cross the street and experience both French and Cambodian delicacies at The Elephant Walk. Optional: The sports fans in the group can finish off the evening in a bar in the shadow of Fenway Park, home of the world champion Red Sox.

“Explore Quincy Market” It was built in the 17th century as a market where farmers and merchants could sell their wares. Today, it is the first place most visitors go to experience the fun and flavor of Boston. We’ll start with a first course at Kingfish Hall, which one reviewer says “…combines Mediterranean lustiness, magnificent local seafood and sprightly global flavors to dashing effect.” Then it’s off to Rustic Kitchen, the home-style restaurant many people wish was in their neighborhood! Optional: We’ll browse among the stalls, searching for the perfect dessert or knick-knack, just as they did in colonial days.

“All the World’s A Stage” Boston is home to many pre-Broadway shows, road companies of Broadway shows, and off-off Broadway shows --- which means dinner in the theater district is always a dramatic event. We’ll begin our evening at Troquet, a bistro famous for pairing each dish with the perfect wine. Then we’ll stroll over to Pigalle, an elegant restaurant specializing in French country cuisine. Optional: Finish off the evening at Finale, an intimate, candle-lit restaurant dedicated to serving decadent desserts!

Each evening is $65.00 per person. That includes a 4-course meal at two locations, group guide, tax, and gratuity. Wine or liquor can be purchased separately at each restaurant. Optional venues and transportation to the restaurants is not included, except for the group going to Longfellow’s Wayside Inn.

NOTE: Specific restaurants subject to change. Dinner reservations must be made when you register for the conference. Cancellations and refunds are in accordance with WACE registration refund policy.
